About This Course:

Being strength-based is widely recognized as best practice in systemic family therapy—but what does that actually look like in practice? This course explores how professionals can meaningfully integrate a family’s lived experiences, cultural values, and existing resources into treatment. By using what a family already has, professionals foster collaboration, build trust, and co-create a shared therapeutic dilemma—one that invites both the professional and the caregiver to work together toward lasting change. Additionally, the social ecology and personal experiences of each professional shape how they interpret and engage with families. Cultivating awareness of one’s own context—as well as the family’s—enhances the ability to understand behaviors systemically and deliver more intentional, impactful interventions. This introductory course will explore, through video-recorded sessions, how professionals use critical life events to support emotion regulation, caregiver leadership, and collaborative treatment planning. The course emphasizes the importance of seeing behavior in context as a relational challenge and invites professionals to strengthen their ability to reframe challenges as opportunities rooted in resilience, meaning, and relational healing.
