About This Course:
The therapeutic alliance has been found to be the most reliable predictor of clinical change in therapy. In EcoSystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) the process of developing and maintaining the therapeutic alliance is referred to as joining. To be effective at joining with a family system, the clinician must hone a therapeutic stance that makes space for the adolescent/child to have a role in and influence the change process without reinforcing systemic dynamics that might scapegoat or blame the child for their current struggles or for the caregiver(s)’ distress. This introductory program will increase clinician understanding of normative child development as well as support the identification of common child stressors which can lead to social emotional or behavioral problems. The ESFT session agenda will be explored as a clinician guide for creating effective joining and for reframing child problems from linear, individually focused and problem laden to systemically oriented and focused on child relational and support needs. Clinician treatment actions that facilitative child/adolescent engagement will be presented. Concepts will be applied to a training role play video.
*There is no known conflict of interest or commercial support for the CE program, presentation, or instructor.
